High res model - Time consuming

I have been working on this high res model for ages now. I am getting closer to finishing the rigging but it is so time consuming. This is a screen shot of the high res hand. It is controlled by SDK. The hand is made up of a high res mesh (39952 faces), which is being controlled by a low res wrap deformer (990 faces). This was done so that the hand could be more detailed and not take for ever to rig.
